Welcome. Thank you for subscribing to Flavor Buffet and my tiny corner of the big, enormous internet. I write about this, that, and everything else. Much like a buffet, there is a lot of variety around here. Topics will range from gluten free food, living with celiac disease, my passion for fashion, personal anecdotes, sneaker recommendations, my favorite snacks, and more.

Hello!
I hope you have a fun, happy, and safe Halloween! We’re ready for tonight with a large bowl of Reese’s, Butterfinger, and Hershey bars; several pumpkins line the stairs to signal our welcoming “seasonal decor.”
For the record, Pepper is very much a non-costume-wearing dog so…she will just jump (and bark) with joy as her costume each time the doorbell rings. Have a great one. :)
Besides the scary amount of candy we will all consume over the next several days (no shame - it’s delicious), another spooky venture as of late was a recent trip to Madewell where I tried on - and purchased - a style of denim I would never have thought to try, let alone buy and bring home. Have you heard of the Kick Out Crop?
Description: “Fitted through the thigh with a cropped mini flare leg.”
Honestly, that doesn’t exactly scream “amazing fit” to me, but you know, words are just words. One must try on for the truth! I personally love shopping for pants (no joke) so I decided it was easier to try them on than be unnecessarily afraid of a description. Well, it turns out words are truly just words. And those words were an apt description. The best part? I actually liked how they fit!
As much as I love shopping for denim, I know my limits. I am 5 feet tall which means length will forever be an issue. Conveniently, a rolled cuff, a raw hem, and “cropped” are all very much in style so I can still shop as I please. Who has time to tailor their jeans? Not me! Thankfully, some brands - specifically Madewell - offer a Petite length for their denim which is incredibly helpful. I will never be someone who needs anything close to a 32’’ inseam. You, my friend, are very tall.
Back to the pants! The Kick Out Crop is available in Petite sizing which made the fit even better. I found the length to be perfect, the “mini flare” to be just enough so it felt modern (not a true “flare”), and the overall fit really good. They do have stretch, but I decided to size up one so they wouldn’t be quite as fitted.
I know this is a long-winded story for denim (thank you for sticking with me), but personally I was so delighted by the experience. I tried a style I had veered away from and had assumed it wouldn’t work for me, but the result was the exact opposite. Why was I afraid of pants? Who is afraid of pants?
This entire denim-trying-and-buying experience led me to two conclusions. One; don’t fear the unknown, especially in the world of jeans. Two; don’t assume a style isn’t for you solely based on its description.
One must try things on! Don’t be afraid! The worst-case scenario is that you’ll decide they aren’t for you. The best case is that you’ll be introduced to something great and buy new pants. Win!
Clearly this was not an actual Scary Story. Sorry! I don’t go for those nor do I like being, or feeling, scared. It’s just not me.
Happy Halloween! Enjoy the candy, costumes, and whatever else you get into this evening. We will probably continue watching Suits which is taking a scarily long time to get through. ;)
The Great Flavor Debate. I will choose salty 98% of the time.
How about you?
The price of this Leather Prada Triangle Bag is horrifying, but I love it.
Not scared to admit how chic this Cuyana Wool Cashmere Sweater Coat looks for blustery days.
Have no fear, the Kick Out Crop is available in plenty of washes so you can find your favorite pair (or two).
Don’t look away; LV SKI exists and now the Speedy 25 comes in shearling - it’s pretty cute!
GAP is having a Friends & Family Sale and I’d recommend checking out the CashSoft collection - everything is well-priced and 40% off!
Those boots above are another example of a “nightmare dressed like a daydream” because the price is scary but the style is fabulous.
Chicken Parmesan Gnocchi Bake has “fall dinner party” written all over it.
I’m on the brink of baking again and I may start with Cheesy, Salty, Savory Scones.
Halloween Snacks in case your dinner plans tonight are in flux and a variety of snacks (oh hey, a buffet!) sounds the most appealing. ;)
Cheers and joy,
Mollie
