We finally decided to purchase a new ‘for home’ laptop and it felt ridiculous to then skip out on the first opportunity to write to all of you on it. Given the busyness of this day, I almost did! However, I am happy to report that I’m typing away on a new, blue Lenovo ‘Yoga’ which is making all of my prior frustrations melt away. Isn’t it funny how new technology can instantly make (some of) life easier? For the record, it was our Valentine’s Day gift to each other. Awww.
Admittedly, I was tempted by the Apple options, but given the requirements I had for this laptop, a PC just made more sense. My former self, an Apple employee, gasped. But she has grown up and is making somewhat more ‘practical’ choices for the most part. I haven’t told you yet about the denim. ;)
Is it me, or has February just gone on and on and on? I’m very glad that we are nearing the end of it because these past weeks have been a lot. I’ve shared the details with all of you, but February had one more axe to grind. No, I didn’t fall on the ice walking to work. No, Pepper didn’t win her battle to live in the snow.
I landed in the ER this past Tuesday night for a bout of a recurring medical issue I’ve dealt with for most of my 39.5 years. Thankfully, it resolved before we spent too many hours in the waiting room, but it was not fun. Too many hours = 3 hours before even being brought into a room for an exam. The nurse said I was lucky. Most people waited 6 hours or more. Are you kidding?!
Given I was in pretty agonizing pain for most of that time, I can barely imagine waiting longer than we had. I laid down on a hard, unwelcome bench for the majority of the wait and took note of the various people coming in, being seen, and eventually going back into the cold night. I was glad I wore a puffy coat and scarf for a bit of ‘cushion.’ Quite a variety of folks arriving at the ER these days, but very few situations seemed to elicit an ‘emergency’ in my opinion. Not a visible wound or drop of blood in sight. However, I think those folks (read: the major emergencies) go in the other entrance.
In the hours of waiting, I decided that The History Channel is perhaps the worst channel to have on TV for a room full of sick/in pain/uncomfortable people. Seriously, how about any other channel? I was hoping for a little mundane HGTV or even something suitable for kids - easy to tune out! The History Channel was featuring something disturbing, too loud, and just plain unpleasant. Exactly what we all need in an already unpleasant situation! I made my way to the other waiting area; the TV was further away and I think it was showing local news or a medical drama. Haha.
We eventually got into an exam room, I discussed options with a PA and a doctor, and thankfully the pain had subsided to the point where it made sense to just go home. Unfortunately, it’s always better to go to the ER when this happens despite the going home outcome. Long story short: I can’t assume the pain will just go away. Sometimes it does not! We got home after midnight, Pepper was thrilled, we were exhausted. Emergency over.
In summary, February decided to throw everything at me. Various medical issues, life-changing family events, and a packed agenda every single day at work. Life is life-ing as they say (do they say this?) and my hope is that March will bring a calmer, more subdued chunk of time. I know work will be busy, but otherwise let’s chill out a bit, shall we? I’m also requesting for all of the snow and ice to melt and for spring to hurry up and get here. We are ready.
One fun update: I got new jeans! This may be unexciting to most of you, but here’s a reminder: nothing feels better than wearing pants that make you feel confident and comfortable. I have been a denim fan forever and have amassed a bit of a collection. However, as I am a real human that grows and changes, many-years-ago pants just don’t fit. They may fit again, but do not right now.
Instead of suffering for fashion (I’ve done that too many times), I caved, bought a new size, and feel like a new person. Hooray! Are they fancier jeans than I planned to purchase? Yes. Are they comfy and awesome and make me feel great? Yes. Mission accomplished.
Now, let’s move on and enjoy this beautiful Sunday.
I’ll be back here next week with more stories, more pants, and hopefully nothing related to an emergency!
Cheers and joy,
Mollie
