No. 55 Hello from the long weekend!
Good morning!
Pepper is sitting with me (on me?) on the patio couch (her favorite spot) and we are debating the day.
It’s September first, there’s a light breeze, and the joy of a long weekend, and fresh month, has prompted this post to be something new. I’ll write to you again tomorrow on Monday, September 2, in the usual form.
May you have a wonderful Sunday and a superb September!
Sometime during the pandemic, I decided to start a YouTube channel - started as Instagram live - called Sunday at Six. I went live on Instagram on Sundays, at 6pm, and talked about, well, anything! It wasn’t my finest, or my worst, work but I enjoyed yammering away about the day or whatever was going on. During the pandemic, it wasn’t a whole lot!
However, it felt good to connect with people and talk out loud. Even if the audience was tiny! If you happen to have watched any of those Sunday at Six videos, thank you! I’m pretty sure they’re all on Instagram still if you’re curious. I told someone at work about my series, while it was still “in production” and they told me that was a horrible time to have a live show. Nice! But like, isn’t that when people watch the news? And the news is usually live, so… joke’s on them. Sunday at Six wasn’t the worst idea!
Flash-forward to now and I’ve decided to resurrect the series in a new format to accommodate this crowd and my Substack platform.
May I present to you the first edition of…
The Sunday Six
The number of sales going on this holiday weekend is almost overwhelming. I could make you a big list and highlight the best, but I’m going to save my energy. Where am I browsing? Alex Mill, The Container Store, Bloomingdale’s, and REI.
We ordered custom furniture covers for our patio pieces from Covers and All. Highly recommend!! Not only did they arrive quickly, but the material is great and they fit perfectly - be sure to measure properly! And for a custom fit, the prices weren’t too shabby.
Only Murders in the Building is back with its newest season! Ugh I love this show. The cast is stellar and the writing is just so good. Catch it on Hulu if you haven’t yet started it.
Speaking of TV, I’m an awards show fan through and through. I’m so excited for Eugene Levy and Dan Levy (father and son!) to host the Emmy Awards! It’ll be great and hopefully very funny.
Do yourself a favor and order Lidey Heuck’s debut cookbook, Cooking in Real Life. She learned from the best, Ina Garten, and her recipes shine. We made the cover dish on Friday night and it was incredible! Reminder - it’s quite easy to adjust any recipe to be gluten free!
In the mood to go out? My restaurant guides are on the blog, but we’ve expanded our must-visit list quite a bit as those went live a number of years ago. Since you are an insider, I’ll share two of my favorites right here: Verveine Cafe in Cambridge (it’s phenomenal and entirely gluten free). Bar Pallino in Boston (downstairs from Faccia a Faccia - no reservations, fab cocktails, smaller, but still stellar menu).
The Sunday Six was provided for free to all subscribers today. However, it is going to be a paid-members-only feature going forward.
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful Sunday!
Cheers and joy,
Mollie
