Welcome. Thank you for subscribing to A Friday Buffet and my tiny corner of the big, enormous internet. I write about gluten free food, great restaurants, my not-so-secret sneaker/denim/coat obsession, personal moments, and the weekly Buffet, which features a handful of items and articles I’ve enjoyed during my own scrolling of the web (always free of affiliate links).

Hello!
If my Instagram (and Threads) account seemed quieter than usual over the last handful of days, it is because I was out walking Pepper. Or running in the yard with Pepper. Or playing with Pepper. Or feeding her ice. Or feeding her food. Or giving her allergy medicine. Or playing again. Or walking again. My oh my, it has been a week!
Seth travels for work now periodically which means I become entirely in charge of all things Pepper for the entirety of his time away. Not a surprise, but OMG I am exhausted. I was utterly thrilled for his return last night around midnight. Pepper is a lot of work. I am not going to lie.
She is the cutest, but she is not for the low-energy crowd. We walked close to 9 miles (literally) every single day, sprinted around the yard multiple times throughout the day, consumed a lot of penguin ice, and tried to stay as active as possible despite the extreme humidity. To say we were both zonked by 8pm every night would be…completely accurate.
I knew a young dog would be far more work than an older one, but I think her breed (golden doodle) has just enough extra spunk to make this time of her life (puppy) that much more…vibrant.
And while it’s ridiculous to complain, I know I have been, she is without a doubt a positive addition to our home. I just didn’t anticipate the added bonus of extreme exercise, weight loss, and constant exhaustion. ;) Pepper is a puppy full of spunk, joy, and intense energy who must be paid attention to at all times and if you leave a room without her…she will follow immediately. She will also sit nicely for a piece of cheddar. :)
In other excitement, the dahlias are growing like crazy and every day there are new ones to pick for a kitchen table bouquet. Amazing! What a gift this project has turned out to be; it’s so delightful to check on them every day and see the new colors and shapes emerging. They are a spectacular addition to our yard and I’m so happy that my goal of a “dahlia bonanza” for my birthday next month will actually happen. Woohoo!! I’m not much of a gardener, but I can definitely appreciate a fabulous floral arrangement. ;)
Well, folks, I don’t have much more to say. It has been a hectic week and I am looking forward to a beautiful weekend with lower humidity and spending time outside with Seth and Pepper. Perhaps we will take her for a picnic or a long walk far from her usual route. But don’t worry…she will still find something icky to pick up off the street!
Our 7th wedding anniversary is coming up on July 30 so I’m contemplating taking next Friday off from writing - a “gift” to myself! We shall see and I’ll make the decision next week. Be sure to check my Instagram stories for news and even more dahlia and Pepper content!
As always, thank you for being here and reading even when the letter is short and the writing has a splash of whine. I appreciate it!
A Buffet for Today: 7/21/2023
“There’s no shame in asking for well-earned acknowledgment.” It’s Leo Season, baby! ;)
A moment for the legendary Tony Bennett. I love his music and his collaboration with Lady Gaga was one of my (and my grandfather’s) favorites. :)
I really want to see the Barbie movie and I’m so glad to know America Ferrera is in it, too!
Learning to swim in one’s late-thirties is extremely admirable; perhaps I should take a few lessons…
Wearing these denim joggers today and they are ridiculously comfy. A sentence I never expected to write!
How do we feel about the cropped button-down?
Highly recommend visiting Coterie inside the newly-renovated Four Seasons Boston for either lunch or dinner. We loved it! I had a scrumptious GF club sandwich and (safe) fries - a dream!
Another summer dining plan is a visit to Bar Pallino which is located downstairs from Faccia a Faccia. I can’t wait!
A fun little roundup after a chaotic week is always welcome, courtesy of Cup of Jo. I’m glad to finally feel calm once again.
Cheers and joy,
Mollie
